I’m a licensed therapist with a background in working with adults navigating anxiety, relationship dynamics, and the long term impact of growing up in environments where emotional needs were not consistently met. My work is informed by attachment theory, neuroscience, and relational psychotherapy.

Clients often come to me when they feel stuck in patterns they understand intellectually but cannot seem to shift in real life. This might look like overthinking, people pleasing, difficulty trusting themselves, or repeating the same relationship dynamics despite wanting something different.

I have a particular interest in helping clients develop self-trust, emotional clarity, and a stronger sense of identity. My approach is grounded, direct, and collaborative. I am not a blank slate therapist. I am engaged, thoughtful, and willing to say the thing that helps you see yourself more clearly.

Dr. Iyican completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Houston, where her graduate research focused on interventions for distressed couples as well as risk factors and treatment for intimate partner violence. In addition to studying and working clinically with couples, she received extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for individuals dealing with anxiety, trauma, stress, and depression.

After finishing her doctorate, Dr. Iyican completed an APA accredited postdoctoral fellowship at the UC San Diego/VA San Diego Healthcare System residency program. In addition to providing psychotherapy services to couples and individuals through the Couples Wellness Center, Dr. Iyican previously worked as a staff psychologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and as an Assistant Health Sciences Clinical Professor at UC San Diego. She has co-authored publications and professional presentations focused on the topics of couple therapy and intimate partner violence.

Dr. Iyican is certified in Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, has completed advanced Level 3 Gottman Method Couple Therapy Training and the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy Externship.

Dr. Iyican is also a mother of two and brings both professional expertise and lived experience to her work with new parents. I’m someone who truly listens and strives to meet each person exactly where they are. My style is adaptive, reflective, and flexible. I bring authenticity, compassion, and a good sense of humor into my work because I believe that laughter and honesty can be just as healing as insight. I was inspired to become a therapist by my own desire for the kind of support I would have wanted, and I aim to offer that same understanding and care to my clients. People often describe me as warm, genuine, and empowering. I am someone who helps them feel deeply heard and supported while encouraging growth in meaningful ways.
